Senior journalist and former president-news at Times Now and ET Now, Arnab Goswami has confirmed to afaqs! that his new venture is called Republic. Goswami was the face of the news show 'Newshour' on Times Now, and has over the years gained immense popularity due to his unique style of questioning.
Since Goswami's departure from Times Now last month, there had been a lot of speculation in the media industry, about his next venture. In an internal farewell video - which was leaked online around that time, Goswami is shown to be speaking strongly in favour of 'independent media', and also saying that the 'game had just begun'.
Rahul Shivshankar has since taken over as editor-in-chief of Times Now.
There are no further details on Goswami's venture currently, but media reports are abuzz that the venture will be launched in time for the UP elections.
In his interview with afaqs! earlier this year, Goswami spoke about his experience in setting up a channel, and had also acknowledged the challenge of marrying television's success to digital.
