This is the group's fourth edition in the South, after Bengaluru, Chennai and Hubli.
Patrika Group has launched its fourth edition in the South from Coimbatore. Launched on July 15, this edition covers areas such as Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Madurai, Nagercoil, Tirunelveli, Trichy etc.
The group entered South India with its Bangalore edition in 1996, targetting the affluent Marwari businessmen and Hindi diaspora. Later, it launched a Chennai edition in 2004 and Hubli edition in 2006.
Speaking on what prompted the group to launch this edition, BR Singh, VP and national head, circulation, Patrika Group, says, "Patrika is a growing newspaper. Its credibility and well-established name creates easy acceptability. It is already well-known there as a newspaper that pioneered Hindi journalism in the South. It is also an untapped affluent category."
He informs that Patrika's core readership in the South comes from the business community. It is also gaining ground amongst students with the growing popularity of Hindi.
"It is a strategic move tapping the markets that most have missed. Reaching the right people is key not quantum, as our readers are certainly the most premium business class in the region, and we create opinions amongst the decision makers. As a newspaper, we consider it part of our larger responsibility to work towards national integration and create platforms where one can be heard and responded to," Singh further adds.
Coimbatore is known as the Manchester of South India, as it is home to a large number of textile industries. It is in proximity to the 'Knitwear Capital' of India, Tiruppur. It is also is known for educational institutions and as the educational hub of Tamil Nadu.
It is the fastest emerging IT hub in Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore is the second largest hub in India for Cognizant Technology Solutions, as it employs more than 10,000 people.
