Previously, he was senior vice president, sales.
India TV, the Hindi news channel, has promoted Sudipto Chowdhuri as executive president, sales. Prior to this, he was designated as senior vice president at India TV. He has been associated with the company for over two years now.
It may be recalled that India TV underwent a complete brand make-over a couple of years ago, refreshing its brand identity, packaging, content and presentation. According to the channel, his inclusion to lead the sales function at India TV coincided with the pre-transition preparations at the channel.
As part of a larger organisational objective, the immediate challenges he has successfully faced are those of price hike and bringing top-of-the-line brands on board. During this period, the channel's co-located inventory sales also grew exponentially.
On his new role, Chowdhuri says, "I would like to specially thank Ritu Dhawan (MD and CEO), not only for the appreciation and recognition, but also for placing trust and giving me a free hand to handle the sales in a fiercely competitive scenario."
A Kolkata boy, Chowdhuri started his career in advertising with Tata Yellow Pages in Delhi. He was sent to Kolkata to start Tata Yellow pages branch operations along with a couple of senior colleagues. After a long stint in Tata Yellow Pages, he moved South to India Today Group as deputy manager, advertising (IMPACT), and was handling all editions of India Today language editions.
Later, he moved to Zee Network as senior manager - ad sales, handling the entire network sales based out of Hyderabad for Andhra Pradesh market. As AVP - sales, he moved to Chennai to handle Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh markets. He then moved to Star News as head of TN and AP, and post that to Mumbai to handle bigger markets and responsibilities. After a relatively long stint with Star News, and before joining India TV in January 2013, he got his first national responsibility with TV9 Group (TV9 Kannada & NEWS 9 English News Channel).
