Sakal Media's Shailesh Amonkar gets a new role

Beginning April 1, Amonkar will be designated as the chief operating officer - New businesses. He is chief marketing officer of the group.

Shailesh Amonkar, chief marketing officer of Sakal Media Group, has been given a new role of chief operating officer - New businesses. He will take over his new responsibility from April 1.

In his new role, Amonkar will set up a new business vertical that will specifically focus on events, online properties and movies. The group has plans for creating large properties at national and international levels. Also setting up alliances with international festivals, events and exhibitions is something that Amonkar will look after. He will be leading both B2B and B2C events.

From the current portfolio of events, he will handle the Kite Festival, Bookaroo Children's Literature Festival, Goa Beach Marathon, School Olympics, May Fest, Food Festivals, Educon and YRI events. He will identify and set up new online properties as he is in charge of tie-ups and collaboration opportunities for production ventures of the group.

According to the company, Amonkar has been a core management team member of Sakal Group and under his leadership the group has been able to setup a successful sales and marketing division. While working on business planning for the new vertical, Amonkar will be reporting to Abhijit Pawar - MD, Sakal Media Group.

This is Amonkar's second stint with Sakal Media. He was earlier with the group from 2003 to 2006, when he quit as director marketing to set up his own media venture titled Kemistry Media Solutions. Amonkar has over 15 years of experience in the industry. In past, he has been associated with The Times of India for about 15 years before he joined Sakal (in 2012).
