GEC Watch: Star Plus is the Biggest Gainer in Week 46

The Hindi GEC hierarchy remained unchanged in the week.

Star Plus, the flagship Hindi general entertainment channel from Star India's stable continues to be on the top of the Hindi GEC ladder.

As per TAM data (C&S, 4+, HSM), the channel added eyeballs to register 657629 GVTs in week 46 of TAM. The number is as opposed to 609924 GVTs that the channel grossed last week. It is the biggest gainer of the week amd five of its shows have made it to the top 10 shows list.

Colors held the second spot strong with 483364 GVTs, as compared to previous week's 485940 GVTs. It has managed to push two of its shows in the most watched shows' list.

Zee TV was another big gainer in the week as it registered 418880 GVTs in the week. In the last week, the channel had grossed 393540 GVTs. Two of its shows appeared in the top 10 shows' chart.

The second rung Hindi GECs - Life OK from Star Network and Sab TV from Multi Screen Media continued their battle for the fourth spot on the Hindi GEC chart. The former saw an increase in viewership numbers and clocked 312543 GVTs in the week ended November 15 (last week 305403). Sab TV, meanwhile, has grossed 295904 GVTs, up from last week's 284515 GVTs.

Sab TV's flagship show Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma continues to be in the top shows' chart.

Next in the line-up is MSM's flagship channel, Sony Entertainment Television that concluded the week 189679 GVTs, further down from 245413 GVTs.

The next two spots are occupied by the FTA channels - Zee Anmol and Star Utsav with 83902 GVTs (last week 89684) and 69391 GVTs (last week 71568), respectively.

Big Magic ended the week with 61220 GVTs (last week 68547), Rishtey with 51925 GVTs (last week 43676), Sony Pal with 32130 GVTs (last week 30695), Zindagi with 29295 GVTs (last week 31500) and Sahara One with 9296 GVTs (last week 9646).

A look at the shows...

Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum, Saathiya Saath Nibhana, Yeh Hai Mohabbatein and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai are the top four most watched shows in the genre with an average rating of 13962 TVTs, 9647 TVTs, 9599 TVTs and 7959 TVTs respectively.

At No.5 is Colors' Sasural Simar Ka that rated 7717 TVTs in the week. It is followed by Zee TV's Jodha Akbar that ended the week with 7649 TVTs.

The seventh spot is occupied by Colors' Udaan with 7253 TVTs. Next is Sab TV's Taarak Mehta...that clocked 7120 TVTs in the week.

Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya and Star Plus' Ek Hasina Thi ended the week with 6837 TVTs and 6672 TVTs, respectively.

For the record, TVT is television viewership in 1000s (TVR in 1000). It is the average number of individuals in '000s that are available at any given minute of a programme (or 'part of day'). It captures growth in TV audiences in the country in absolute numbers. The TVR system, in contrast, works on percentages.
