In the latest development from the Narendra Modi government, Arun Jaitley has been announced as the new Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting.
Jaitley, also the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, takes charge of I&B Ministry from Prakash Javadekar. This is his second stint as the I&B Minister. He was Minister of state (independent charge) of the I&B from October 1999 to September 2000.
Javadekar will continue to be the Minister of State (independent charge) for the Environment Ministry. He was appointed as Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting (independent charge) in May this year after Bhartiya Janta Party's victory in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. He, in turn had replaced Manish Tewari as the I&B Minister, who took over the responsibility in October, 2012.
Jaitley, 62, had been the member of the ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad), the student wing of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) during his student years. He has been a member of the national executive of Bharatiya Janata Party since 1991.
