GEC Watch: Colors jumps to No.2, courtesy Bigg Boss 8

The Salman Khan-hosted show fetched a viewership of around 7600 TVTs on its first day.

Colors, Viacom18's Hindi GEC, has jumped to second spot in the Hindi GEC hierarchy. The channel had launched the eighth season of the Salman Khan-hosted celebrity reality show, Bigg Boss, on September 21. It fetched a viewership of around 7600 TVTs in its first episode. The average viewership of the show, however, is 3993 TVTs in week 39 of TAM.

Thanks to Bigg Boss 8, the channel grossed close to 431000 GVTs in the week, compared to 412000 GVTs in the previous week, as per TAM data (HSM, 4+, C&S). Two of Colors' shows are in the 'top 10 most watched shows' list.

Star Plus, the leading channel in the space, clocked 593000 GVTs as opposed to 580000 GVTs in the last week. The channel's singing reality with Yo Yo Honey Singh recorded 2025 TVTs in its fifth week of telecast. Four of its shows featured in the top shows' list.

Zee TV lost viewership to settle at 427000 GVTs in the week ended September 27. The channel had grossed 443000 GVTs in the previous week. Three of its shows have made it to top list. The finale of the channel's reality show 'India's Best Cine Star Ki Khoj' clocked 1400 TVTs.

Life OK concluded the week with 307000 GVTs (last week 295000 GVTs). The channel's dance reality, hosted by Akshay Kumar, Dare 2 Dance rated 2314 TVTs in its fourth week of telecast. It was followed by Multi Screen Media's Sab TV, which closed the week at 262000 GVTs (last week 269000 GVTs) and Sony Entertainment Television that ended the week with 247000 GVTs (last week 264000 GVTs).

Sab TV's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah continued to be one of the most watched shows in the genre. Family Antakshari with Anu Kapoor fetched a viewership of 1671 TVTs in its launch week. Sony, meanwhile, launched a new fiction titled Humsafars that rated an average of 800 TVTs. The television premiere of Bollywood movie, 'Heropanti', rated 4500 TVTs on Sony.

Sony Pal and Zindagi ended the week with 26000 GVTs. While Sony Pal had rated 24000 GVTs in the previous week, Zindagi had closed week 38 of TAM with 32000 GVTs.

A look at the shows...

Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum emerged as the most watched show in the genre with 8171 TVTs. It was followed by Zee TV's Jodha Akbar and Kumkum Bhagya, with 7817 and 7259 TVTs respectively.

The next two slots went to Star Plus' Saathiya Saath Nibhana (with 6730 TVTs) and Yeh hai Mohabbatein (with 6687 TVTs). The latter, from this week has changed its time slot. The fresh episodes of YHM now air at 7.30 pm, a slot which was occupied by Saraswatichandra, with a repeat at 11 pm.

At No.6 is Comedy Nights with Kapil that went recently went Dubai. The first episode telecast from Dubai's show garnered a viewership of 6686 TVTs. It is followed by Star Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that concluded the week with 6651 TVTs. Zee TV's Jamai Raja is next with 6380 TVTs. Colors' Sasural Simar Ka (5783 TVTs) and Sab's Taarak Mehta... (5727 TVTs) occupied the last two spots in 'top 10 Hindi GEC shows' chart.

For the record, the figures mentioned are approximate TVT figures. TVT is television viewership in 1000s (TVR in 1000). It is the average number of individuals in '000s that are available at any given minute of a programme/day part that is under consideration. It captures growth in TV audiences in the country in absolute numbers. The TVR system, in contrast, works on percentages.
