Carnatic Music Space Gets New Contender, Public Music

Writemen Media, a Karnataka-based media company, is launching a Kannada music channel christened Public Music. The company also runs a news channel, Public TV.

Public Music, will be the first Karnataka-based music channel while the other players in the space are believed to be from other states. It will launch on September 28 with the tagline "Nobody can deliver better music, the way we do".

According to H.R. Ranganath, chairman and MD, Writemen Media, Public Music has a vast collection of songs spanning genres with a strong content base targeting youth at large.

Public Music will leverage sister company Lahiri Recording Co's vast library to get around 75,000 songs. C.K. Harish Kumar, COO, Public TV and Public Music says that it is the Group's understanding of the Kannada Market that encouraged them to foray into the genre. The music channel will also aim to promote Kannada music culture by interactive and engaging line-up of shows.

Public Music has got on board Intex as the principal sponsor for the channel as Nikon and Denver at the launch stage. Besides, it has roped in regional retail brands. According to sources in the industry, the channel is selling its ad spots for Rs 750-1,000/ 10 seconds.

Public Music is heavily promoted on its sister channel after every segment on the channel. It has also installed 50-70 hoarding sites - to promote the channel - as well as posters covering the key markets. The channel is also running promos on the local cable channels.

Public Music will be available across cable and satellite homes and also across key DTH Platforms.
