History TV18 and Nat Geo have planned documentaries around the First World War as 2014 marks 100 years of the beginning of the World War I.

History TV18: The World Wars

History TV18, through its special six part series, titled 'The World Wars' will examine the two wars as one continuous timeline, starting with 1914 and concluding with 1945. Interestingly, the series will premiere on the newly launched History TV18 App first on August 4, before the show hits the TV screens on August 11.

According to Sangeetha Aiyer, VP and head marketing, A+E Networks|TV18, every study shows that consumption is shifting, by leaps and bounds, to mobile. "The future belongs to content which is platform agnostic. By premiering one of our top rated shows on the App first, we are taking baby steps in this direction." The app is not a paid service and all six episodes of The World Wars will be available at one go, based on the fact that content consumption is now slowly veering towards binge viewing.

History TV18 has got Hero Karizma as a sponsor on board for 'The World Wars'. It will air Monday to Saturday at 9 pm. The World Wars will be available on the app in English and Hindi. TV will have an additional Bengali feed, for which the channel has roped in veteran actor Sabyasachi Chakrabarty who is the narrator. The English feed is narrated by Jeremy Renner.

The World Wars is a show on the 30-year bloody continuum - there was a break between the wars from 1919 to 1938 - that spread from Europe to the entire globe. World War II threw up some of the most iconic figures in history who had also been through World War I. Names like Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, George S. Patton, Hideki Tojo, Charles de Gaulle and Douglas MacArthur were caught up in both conflicts. The documentary focuses on how their lives were shaped by WW1, following which they shaped the world during WW2.

Says Aiyer, "The World Wars is being promoted in a traditional way through promos on our channel and across the network (CNN IBN, CNBC). There is also a heavy digital thrust across our social media platforms."

Nat Geo's 'Secrets of World War 1'

Premiering on August 2, 'Secrets of World War 1' will air on Saturday and Sunday at 10 pm. Four episodes - Fury, Hell, Rage and Deliverance - will showcase the effect of war on the world. The series kicks off with Fury, which will take the audiences back to 1914 at a time when the German troops are nearing Paris. The subsequent episodes will take them to different parts of Europe giving viewers a closer look and feel of war.

Debarpita Banerjee, VP, marketing and communications, NGC Network and Fox International Channels, says, "On the historic occasion of 100 years since the First World War, Nat Geo is proud to present this classic documentary revealing exclusive footage in colour for the first time on Indian Television"

Samsung Galaxy Tab has partnered with NGC on this show. Talking about the partnership, Banerjee adds, "We are happy to partner with Samsung which is known for giving consumers a unique experience with innovation in technology." Mahindra and Mahindra is the 'Powered by' sponsor on the show. It is being promoted through promos on the channel and by the sharing of engaging content on the NGC's social media channels including Facebook and Twitter.
