Kapri is all set to join News Express as CEO and managing editor. Meanwhile, India TV has appointed three new people in the editorial department.
Vinod Kapri, former managing editor of India TV, one of the leading Hindi news channels in the country, put in his papers yesterday. He will be joining News Express, another Hindi news channel as CEO and managing editor on December, 20, 2013.
There is no notice period to be served in India TV as Kapri was on leave for the past two-three months. During this time, he was shooting a feature film and now, the work of the film is in post production stage. He joined India TV as managing editor in 2007.
Kapri will continue directing movies, while being the CEO and managing editor of News Express. He will be based in Delhi-NCR region and will be reporting in to the chairman and managing director of . News Express.
Kapri calls it quits after a stint of six years at India TV. He was reporting in to Rajat Sharma, editor-in-chief, India TV. In October, the channel took on board QW Naqvi as editorial director. If industry insiders are to be believed, Naqvi's appointment has encouraged Kapri's exit from the channel.
Kapri states that the aim will be to push News Express to top five news channels. In an attempt to reach there, the channel will be appointing expertise from other top news channels like Zee News, IBN7, Aaj Tak and India TV.
"I look forward to join the television broadcast industry but I also have to focus on my upcoming film that I have directed. It's a Hindi feature film which revolves around social and political satire," Kapri informs. The movie is tentatively called Miss Tanakpur, Haazir Ho and features Om Puri, Anu Kapoor, Ravi Kishen, Rishita Bhatt and Rahul Bagga.

Being a journalist for over 20 years, all of Kapri's assignments have been investigative in nature; the new film is also based on a real life incident.
Kapri started his career as a journalist with Amar Ujala in 1993. Later, in 1995, he moved on to the electronic media with Zee News as reporter and quickly climbed up to the position of output editor for Zee News. In 2004, he joined STAR News (now ABP News) as executive producer and was promoted as managing editor.
Meanwhile, in order to further strengthen its team for election news and programming, India TV has announced yet another round of senior level appointments.
