The Indian Express has appointed George Varghese as CEO. He will replace Shekhar Gupta, who has relinquished his duties as CEO but will continue to be the group editor-in-chief.
This will be Varghese's second stint at the newspaper. Earlier, he had worked with the English daily for more than a decade between 1988 and 1998 as chief general manager and was responsible for space marketing and circulation.
Varghese will report to Viveck Goenka, chairman and MD, The Indian Express Group and will take charge from today (August 28).
He has more than 25 years of experience and was earlier working with KEC International as president for its distribution business. He has also worked for Reliance Communications as president and at Hughes Telecom. Varghese is a science graduate and an MBA from the Institute of Management Development and Research, Pune.
