HMVL (Hindustan Media Ventures Ltd), the publisher of Hindi newspaper Hindustan, has roped in Sanjay Shukla as head, strategy and operations (HMVL) and advisor to the CEO. This is a newly created position. Shukla has been with the organisation since January, 2008. Till now, he was associated with Hindustan Times, the English publication of the group, as business head, HT Punjab.
Talking about his new role, Shukla says, "With years of experience in print along with a deep knowledge of Hindi operating geographies including Bihar, I am in a unique position to help design the strategy for Hindustan going forward. In UP, Hindustan has already become a required media vehicle and in my new role, my prime responsibility will be to position Hindustan as a priority media vehicle in the UP market, especially against already established players. We are positioning Hindustan as the No. 1 brand of choice in UP and I am looking forward to taking on that challenge."
Shukla has more than 22 years of experience, of which approximately 17 years is in the media industry. Before joining the Hindustan Times Group, he was with the Hindi publication, Dainik Jagran, as senior general manager for Meerut and Dehradun. He has also worked with Mediascope as assistant manager at its Lucknow office and Indian Express as an executive at the Delhi and Lucknow branches.
For the record, the first edition of Hindustan was published in 1936 from Delhi and today, the daily has its presence across six regions including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Mohali and Delhi & NCR.
