Ghosh, who has joined Delhi Press as ad sales director, will report to Anant Nath, director, Delhi Press.
Delhi Press has taken on-board Sabyasachi Ghosh, erstwhile vice-president, Bengali Magazines, ABP Group, as advertising sales director. The development comes close on the heels of the appointment of V Natarajan as vice-president, brands and marketing at Delhi Press, and is in continuation of Delhi Press' recent efforts to revamp its senior management team.
At ABP, Ghosh was responsible for profit and loss functions of the Bengali magazines business, including marketing, advertising, circulation and revenues. He also took care of the advertising sales for ABP and The Telegraph.
At Delhi Press, he will handle the advertising sales functions of 32 magazines of the group and report to Anant Nath, director.
Ghosh has worked in various sectors of the print and advertising industries; this shift to Delhi Press from a traditional regional player will enable him to handle magazines at a national level.
In a conversation with afaqs!, Ghosh says, "I have never been a print man only; neither a television nor an advertising person per se; this is a new opportunity to expand my scope to a wide range of 32 magazines in all the Indian languages."
Speaking on the reach of the magazines, he adds, "The scope is tremendous. The expansion of the existing form of media (print) to the new form (digital and mobile) is what I am looking forward to. The magazines are proving to be an important media vehicle in terms of quality, content and revenues."
After completing MBA in marketing from IISWBM in 1988, Ghosh started his career with BCCL in advertisement sales for group publications, along with local brand management of The Economic Times. His stint at BCCL lasted for about three years.
He has also worked for JWT and Contract as associate vice-president and media director in India and Sri Lanka. In the two agencies, Ghosh handled client media business solutions, media planning and new business development. He spent about nine years in the advertising business on the agency side.
Later, he moved on to media agency Mindshare as managing partner and general manager, where he worked for six years (between 2000 and 2006) in Vietnam and Bangladesh. He has also worked with Mediacom (2006-08) as managing director.
Subsequently, Ghosh turned to the print industry; he joined the ABP Group as vice-president in 2008. He quit ABP in November this year.
