This will be Banerjee's second stint at Radio Mirchi. His first one was in 2002, when he worked as an RJ and hosted the popular late night show, Dil Chahta Hai, for two years.
Radio Mirchi has roped in Akash Banerjee as programming head for its Delhi station.Speaking about his plans, Banerjee says that radio has a lot to offer beyond music and entertainment, and it's high time the medium started living up to the demands of the people. Discussions on burning issues, open phone lines, news flashed on wires are some ideas that can increase the appeal of the medium, he says.
He adds that radio can have a huge impact on people as a large number of them tune into this medium while they travel to work in the morning. For instance, live phone-in programmes with elected representatives can enable people to forward their grievances and make a huge difference by airing their concerns.

Talking about Phase 3 of radio licensing, Banerjee says that the move will bring in more radio stations that offer specialised content.
An alumnus of La Martiniere Boys' College, Hindu and St. Stephens College, Banerjee has nearly 10 years of experience in the broadcast industry. After his first stint at Radio Mirchi, he joined Times Now in 2005 and worked there as an anchor and correspondent for three years.
Later, he moved to Headlines Today as a correspondent. His stint at Headlines today lasted for five years.
Banerjee still continues to harbour his childhood dream of travelling and photographing the world. Recently, he released a book titled 'Tales from Shining and Sinking India', which talks about his experiences.
