India TV has signed Paritosh Joshi, former CEO of Star CJ Network India, as a strategist for its news channel. Till April 2012, Joshi was with STAR CJ Network India, a joint venture of the STAR Group and CJ O Shopping of South Korea.
Recently, Ormax Media, the media research and consulting firm, had also roped in Joshi as strategic advisor.
In his new role, Joshi will optimise and lead the revenue function of the existing businesses and develop business for the forthcoming ventures of the company.
He will work with the management at the strategic level as a mentor and also actively connect and engage India TV's business teams including sales, new media and brand.
Announcing his appointment, Ritu Dhawan, managing director and chief executive officer, India TV, says, "Immensely experienced Paritosh will be a tremendous resource in formulating the strategy for our new, ready to roll business plans. While we look forward to his contribution in taking Independent News Service to the next level, we feel delighted in welcoming Paritosh on the team."
Joshi mentions that Rajat Sharma was a fellow IBF board member for the last six years and they have had many lively conversations on the television business.
"It is from such a conversation earlier this year that the idea of this engagement began. Ritu-Rajat is a true power couple of the news television industry who have built India TV into a formidable force that enjoys a massive audience across a growing distribution footprint. With a solid revenue engine already in place supported by a talented sales team, India TV is poised for even bigger achievements. It is a privilege to be invited to participate in this exciting journey and I look forward to a stimulating, inspiring assignment," adds Joshi.
An IIM Ahmedabad alumnus, Joshi joined the STAR TV network in August 2005 as president, advertising sales and distribution. Later, in 2009, Joshi went on to become the chief executive officer at STAR CJ Network India, the joint venture of STAR Television and South Korea's CJ O Shopping.
Joshi began his career in 1985 as product executive with Procter & Gamble (then Richardson Hindustan Limited) and after a five-year stint with the company, went on to become product manager.
Meanwhile, Joshi continues to be mentor at MentorEdge (mentoredge.com) and member of the board of governors of the Media Research Users Council (MRUC). He also heads the IRS technical committee at the MRUC and is director, Indian Broadcasting Foundation.
