Puthiya Thalaimurai, the 24-hour Tamil news channel from the New Generation Media Corporation stable, has promoted RBU Shyam Kumar as chief executive officer. Earlier, Kumar was director, operations and handled marketing, HR, presentation and traffic, research and magazine circulation for the organisation.
For the record, New Generation Media Corporation is also the publisher of the Puthiya Thalaimurai group of magazines.
Commenting on his latest mandate, Kumar says, "I will assess all the possibilities from various dimensions to position the channel as a global brand, without compromising on the core values that we have been hitherto upholding."
An alumnus of Loyola College, Chennai, Kumar completed MBA in marketing from Pondicherry University.
He has about 23 years of experience in sales and marketing. He began his career with Eureka Forbes in 1989. Later, he moved to BPL in 1991 in direct marketing, wherein he was in-charge at the Utilities and Appliances division.
In July 1995, Kumar joined The Times of India Group, Chennai as the city sales head and was with the company for 14 years. Later, he moved to New Generation Media in 2009 as vice-president to take care of the magazine operations.
