The Madhya Pradesh (MP)-based Hindi newspaper group Nai Dunia Media, completed 64 years of its existence on June 5. To celebrate the occasion, Nai Dunia invited people who turned 64 this year, to share their experiences regarding the changes and evolution of society during the last 64 years of their lives. A select few experiences were published on June 5, in both newspapers (NaiDunia and NavDunia).

To commemorate the occasion, Nai Dunia Media also invited readers to call up its office on the company's birthday, and receive gifts, if they had the number '64' in their mobile number, house number, ATM card number, or vehicle registration number.

Talking to afaqs, Debu Mishra, president, sales and marketing, Nai Dunia Media, says, "We want all our readers to feel proud to be associated with a brand that has a rich legacy. As our foundation day also coincides with World Environment Day, we thought of doing a campaign dedicated to a social cause."

Says Vineet Sethia, director, NaiDunia Media, "As an environmental commitment, we try to use as much recycled newsprint as possible in daily printing. As for the bags, we decided to use our own newsprint waste. Since making newspaper bags is not an easy task and is a complete manual process, our team has deployed around hundred people in Indore and several others at each of our units to ensure the timely supply of the bags,"

The group also launched a campaign across all editions of its Hindi dailies NaiDunia and NavDunia titled 'Apne Hath Me Thaam lo Hariyali'.

As part of the campaign, the media company is encouraging the people of MP and Chhattisgarh to say no to polythene bags, and to instead, use paper bags. For this purpose, the group will distribute 5 lakh paper bags of A3 and A4 sizes, made from old issues of NaiDunia and NavDunia, in various malls and marketplaces to shoppers across Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Raipur, and Bilaspur, among others. The campaign will run for seven days, and conclude on Saturday, June 11.

"People have always supported our initiatives related to environmental concerns. In fact, we have been able to move several NGOs, social organisations and municipal corporations to help take our initiatives further. This time too, we believe, we can spark off a trend of using paper bags", says Vinay Chhajlani, chief executive officer, Nai Dunia Media, in an official communique.

During its 63rd anniversary, Nai Dunia Media had taken up two social cause-related projects -- Thamlo Hariyali wherein, the group had planted saplings in the cities of MP and Chattisgarh, and in Delhi, and Thamlo Paani, a campaign for the preservation of water.

Meanwhile, the group has introduced a printing facility in Ujjain, and from June 5, many sub-editions of Indore including Ratlam, Mandsur, Neemuch and Ujjain, will be printed from Ujjain. The group plans to soon revamp the product.
