Nitin Vaidya, COO, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) and business head, Zee TV, has decided to explore new avenues beyond Zee. Vaidya has been associated with the company for over a decade.
It is learnt that Zee is not seeking an immediate replacement for Vaidya; his direct reports would henceforth report to Punit Goenka, CEO, ZEEL.
In 2008, as part of the restructuring, Vaidya, who was the director of the regional channels of Zee Group, was elevated to the position of COO. Thus, he also took charge of Zee's national channels, including Zee TV, Smile, Next, Zee Cinema, Jagran, Zee Muzic and Cafe Trendz.
During his tenure with Zee, Vaidya spearheaded the company's foray into the regional space and later all national channels. It was during his tenure that Zee Group launched Zee Marathi, Zee Bangla and Zee Talkies as an exclusive cinema channel. He also set up the film production and distribution business in Marathi.
In an official communiqué, Vaidya says, "Zee gave me the opportunity to broaden my horizon and explore diversified functions."
Punit Goenka, MD and CEO, ZEEL said, "Zee family will always remember Nitin for his adroit understanding of viewers' minds and penetrating insights into content and programming. The entire Zee family wishes Nitin all success in his new endeavours."
With around 23 years of experience, Vaidya started his career in media with the Sakal group as reporter. He grew to become principal correspondent, special correspondent, chief of bureau, brand manager and chief executive at the state and national levels.
