Big 92.7FM launches in Goa; Kanpur in June

Big FM will be the first private FM radio station to enter Kanpur, taking Big’s count of stations to 19

Big 92.7FM, the radio initiative from Adlabs Films, will roll out its 19th station in India with its entry in Kanpur in the first week of June. This launch will mark the entry of the first private FM station in Kanpur, offering a new form of entertainment to the people there.

Commenting on the entry of the radio station in Kanpur, Tarun Katial, chief operating officer, Big 92.7FM, says, “While the metros are ideal to establish brand recognition and recall, some of the mini-metros are completely new and fresh to explore, giving us an opportunity to provide an entertainment medium to listeners.”

In a separate initiative, Big 92.7FM has launched in Goa today; it will provide localised music content catering to the tastes of the locals residing there. Further, Goa residents will get information such as weather updates, fish and vegetable prices, stock updates, time checks and health tips.

In its first phase, Big 92.7FM set up stations in Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Mumbai. The second phase took the network to Jammu, Srinagar, Aligarh, Guwahati, Jhansi, Bikaner, Chandigarh, Hisar, Bareilly, Jalandhar and Bhubaneswar. The current phase takes Big FM to several mini-metros, taking the total count of stations to 19 (with the launch of Goa, Bhopal and, soon, Kanpur).

Talking about the programming for the Kanpur station, Katial says, “The programming mix of our stations has been put together based on extensive research and in-depth analysis, taking into consideration the preferences of the people of the city. There will be a high amount of interactivity on the station and we will use it as a platform for consumers to take on issues that are word of mouth and bring listener emotions to the fore.”

For the record, to ensure the highest aspirational appeal, Big 92.7FM has film actors Abhishek Bachchan as its brand ambassador for the Hindi belt, Asin for the Telugu and Tamil markets and Upendra for the Kannada market.
