Reliance Digital, the retail venture of the Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries, which will deal in consumer durables and IT products, unveiled its logo and brand identity at a press conference in the Capital on Tuesday.

Ajay Baijal, president and chief executive, consumer durables, IT and telecom, Reliance Retail, told agencyfaqs! that Nita Ambani has worked closely on the new logo, which is in blue and red. This is, incidentally, similar to the family of colours used by Reliance ADAG.

Baijal said the colour red signifies freshness, strength and life, while blue is a favourite with technology companies.

The company launched its first Reliance Digital outlet in Shipra Mall, Ghaziabad, a suburb of Delhi.

The company has allocated a budget of Rs 4 crore for promoting just the Ghaziabad outlet. It plans to launch five more outlets in Delhi and the NCR (national Capital region) by the end of this year. The spends for the outlets in Delhi could be more. So, an estimated figure indicates that Reliance Digital will spend around Rs 20-25 crore on the branding of these outlets within the next fiscal.

However, company executives say they are only looking at word of mouth publicity as of now; ad campaigns will be launched in the next few months, when more outlets will be launched.

Reliance Digital plans to launch 30 such stores in Delhi and the NCR, and 150 stores in all in the next three years.

Reliance Digital will comprise speciality stories owned solely by the company and not follow a franchisee model; in its stores, it will provide products and services related to technology and entertainment. The Rs 25,000 crore retail project will have a presence in 784 cities and 6,000 towns in the country.

Reliance Digital will have to fight it out in the market with other players such as Jumbo Electronics, Videocon’s Next and Tata Group’s Chroma stores.
