Vijay Subramaniam quits Amazon Prime as Content Head

He joins as 'content head' and will take care of both original and licensed content.

Vijay Subramaniam, former vice-president, content and communication, Walt Disney India, has joined Amazon Prime Video as head of content.

A source in the company informs afaqs!, "He will now look after content, both original and licensed."

Subramaniam joined Walt Disney India in 2007 as executive director, media networks, before which he worked at MTV, ENIL- Radio Mirchi, Star India and Stardust.

Subramaniam played a key role in the growth of Disney India's youth channel Bindass; he steered the launches of successful shows like 'The Trip', 'Girl in the City' and 'Emotional Atyachaar' among others.

Amazon Prime Video is betting big on original content to capture the Indian market. Subramaniam's inclusion looks like a step in this direction.The subscription-based video on demand platform has already announced the release of its first Hindi original series 'Inside Edge'. Produced by FarhanAkhtar and RiteshSidhwani's Excel Entertainment, the show will be available on the platform July 10 onwards.
