HOOQ, the video-on-demand service, has appointed Salil Kapoor as the managing director of its India operations. He joins the company from Dish TV India where he served as chief operating officer.

Kapoor will, in his new role, push the company's goals of getting India hooked to HOOQ by revolutionising the video-on-demand service landscape in India.

HOOQ, a joint venture between Singtel, Sony Pictures Television, and Warner Bros, claims to deliver over 30,000 hours of Hollywood and Bollywood blockbusters along with popular regional and local programmes.

Commenting on his new role, Kapoor says, "The freedom of enjoying premium content from anywhere and at any time, clubbed with better internet connectivity and growing smartphone penetration will drive subscriber growth for HOOQ. I look forward to take the brand philosophy to the next level."

HOOQ will leverage Kapoor's experience spanning over 25 years in different industries. Prior to his current role, Kapoor was chief operating officer at Dish TV for over seven years, and was responsible for driving the overall growth of the business.

Kapoor was also associated with LG as business head for its air-conditioning division. He was subsequently promoted to become the chief marketing officer at LG, where he drove international sports partnerships and retail expansion of branded stores. Post LG, he joined Microsoft as the consumer marketing lead and then went on to become the Group product head of the home appliances division.

HOOQ currently operates in The Philippines, Thailand, and India with a population footprint of over 1.4 billion people.
