Digital news platform The News Minute (TNM) has raised an undisclosed amount in an angel round of funding from media bigwigs Raghav Bahl and Ritu Kapur-led Quintillion Media (publishers of TheQuint.com).The News Minute is run by well-known journalist and author Chitra Subramaniam, former Times Now (South) bureau chief, along with Dhanya Rajendran and Vignesh Vellore. Kapur, co-founder of The Quint, will join as a director on the Board of Spunklane Media, the parent company of The News Minute.
Speaking on the development, Vellore, who is co-founder of The News Minute, says, "The investment from Quintillion Media will enable us to reach our true potential. We will focus on expanding our team, enhance technology, and market the content better to reach out to a wider audience. This will also help us implement a long-term business strategy.''
Kapur says, "TheNewsMinute.com is an outstanding digital news platform created by Vellore and his team. In a short span, the TNM team has created a space for itself in digital news media, especially in Southern India. We believe that it has the potential to grow to greater heights in the near future and we are happy to partner them in this journey.''
Prior to this, Quintillion Media has also made angel investments in Sheroes, a women-centred community and job portal, and Youth Ki Awaaz, an online news and views portal. Meanwhile, The Quint has recently tied up with Da Vinci, Germany, to launch a TV and digital platform for kids in India called Da Vinci Quint.
Started in 2014, The News Minute is a news and current affairs platform that has become popular in a very short time. The Bengaluru-based venture focusses on the five Southern states. It hosts content that includes on-ground reporting, breaking news, opinions, and blogs.
