Flipkart hires Google's Surojit Chatterjee to head consumer experience and growth

He joins the e-commerce marketplace from Google, where he was the global head of Mobile Search Advertising and AdSense for Search (AFS).

Flipkart has appointed Surojit Chatterjee as senior vice-president and head of consumer experience and growth. In this role, he will be responsible for consumer experience across desktop and mobile, and will report to Punit Soni, Flipkart's chief product officer.

Chatterjee spent the last eight-and-a-half years at Google, where most recently he was the global head of Mobile Search Advertising and AdSense for Search (AFS). He was a founding member of Google's mobile search ads team and helped make mobile search ads a growth engine for the search giant. Previously, he led payment products for Google in the Asia Pacific, and mobile products for Google India. Prior to Google, Chatterjee worked as a senior product manager at Symantec Corporation, and senior engineer at Oracle and IBM.

Speaking on the occasion, Mukesh Bansal, head, commerce platform, Flipkart, says, "Flipkart welcomes Chatterjee into the organisation. His experience to help build and scale a multi-billion dollar business from scratch, his deep knowledge of product management and global e-commerce, and his tremendous expertise in mobile advertising will help Flipkart continue to deliver ever-greater customer experiences even as we rapidly expand. He will be part of the leadership team and help innovate and improve all the ways we serve our customers."

Chatterjee, who looks forward to his new appointment at Flipkart, says, "Every month, millions of people in India are connecting to the internet for the first time thanks to mobile technology - a transformation that is revolutionising Indian society. Chatterjee holds a BS in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur, an MS in Computer Science from SUNY Buffalo, and an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management. He has 33 granted US patents to his name.
