"You educate a man; you educate a man. You educate a woman; you educate a generation," said a renowned American academician and author Brigham Young. Taking a cue from this insight, HCL Technologies, a global IT services company headquartered in India, launched a campaign titled #AMileForHer in early April, urging consumers to show solidarity towards the cause of women empowerment through literacy.
'A Mile For Her' is an initiative under iBelieve - HCL Technologies' Women's Network committed to enthusing, energising and enabling 100,000 girls and women by 2020, by equipping them with the right skills, information and resources to advance personally and professionally.
The campaign aims at the fierce commitment towards empowering women and celebrating their contribution in the organisation. One can participate in the campaign by running or walking a mile and uploading his/her self-photograph with a raised hand on a social media channel, with the hash tag #AMileforHer and the name of the person the mile is dedicated to.
The individual will also have to nominate two more people to take up the challenge by tagging them on the post. HCL will match your miles by empowering underprivileged women through digital literacy initiatives.
"HCL's initiatives are aimed towards empowering young women and enabling them through digital literacy which has become the basic requirement for job opportunities today," states an official note from the company.
The company has created a dedicated microsite, www.amileforher.in, where 9557 individuals have so far participated in the initiative. The campaign has, till date, generated around 45 million impressions on Twitter, with more than 7700 tweets and more than 10,000 running a mile for an inspirational woman in their lives.
