Valerie Wagoner, CEO of the mobile marketing firm ZipDial, has announced that her firm will be acquired by Twitter.

Her note on ZipDial's website reads: "This is a huge achievement for the entire ZipDial team, and an opportunity to reflect on everything we've accomplished since our start in 2010. The company was founded on the insight that consumers and brands in emerging markets behave differently and have different needs. We build for them and their unique behaviors."

Wagoner says ZipDial has "leveraged the ubiquitous behavior of missed calls between friends and applied it as an offline call-to-action for brand engagement," going on to talk about the way her company has leveraged the concept of prepaid recharge, something that's "as valuable as currency in emerging markets" such as ours.

"That," Wagoner says in her note, "became a foundation for our couponing and gratification products."

"Another central behavior is the very frugal usage of mobile data. Users in India, for example, consume on average 60 MB of data per month, only 4.5 per cent of the 1.38 GB consumed each month by users in the US," she says.

"By designing ZipDial's platform and engagement products for these behaviors, we've achieved more than one billion connections with brands across 60 million users. We also eagerly anticipate everything we can achieve with Twitter," she goes on.

The goal, she concludes is to "make Twitter's unique, great content accessible to 100 per cent of the world's mobile users, including those in emerging markets who will be experiencing the mobile Internet for the first time."
