Facebook has launched a feature for its mobile users in India which allows people to post their voting stories on their Facebook timeline on the polling days of their respective constituencies.

The Election Day message and 'I'm a Voter' button will only be visible to voters in regions and constituencies on the day polling takes place in their area.

"For the first time in India, people over 18 using Facebook on their mobile device will see a message at the top of their News Feed reminding them that voting has started in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections. Users will need to vote and then update their status by clicking on the 'I'm a Voter' button supported by ‪#‎LokSabha2014," states Ankhi Das, public policy director, India and South Asia, Facebook.

By clicking on the button, people will be able to post a story to their Facebook timeline, sharing with friends that they are voting in this election.

For the record, in 2013, to attract youngsters to come forward and vote in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Facebook had launched 'Register to Vote'. Aimed at first time voters, Facebook allowed users to add the day when they registered themselves in the voter's list.

Besides Facebook, Google has also launched a portal that gives information about all candidates standing in this election across all constituencies. To support the platform, the company had also launched a campaign called #PledgeToVote where it had featured independent India's first time voter Shyam Negi in a video.

Besides, #PledgeToVote released a musical video featuring Indian celebrities like megastar Amitabh Bachchan, cricketer Virender Sehwag, and celebrities such as Dia Mirza, Swara Bhaskar, Sakshi Tanwar, Arjun Rampal, Hrishitaa Bhatt and Raima Sen. Singer Shaan and Monali Thakur lent their voices to the one-minute video.
