The portal plans to donate one rupee to an NGO for every song shared on the website.
Times Internet's online music streaming site Gaana.com has partnered with Shiksha Daan Foundation, a children's NGO, to launch a corporate social responsibility campaign called 'Share a song for a smile'. As a part of the initiative, the portal plans to donate one rupee to the NGO for every song shared on the website. The campaign started on August 15 and will run till August 31.
Under the initiative, an album thumbnail is created on the Gaana home page by the name 'Bring a smile this Independence Day'. When people click on the thumbnail, they will be redirected to an album page where a splash will appear stating them to share a song and gift a smile.
Users are asked to share these songs with their friends on Facebook and #Gaana hash tag mentions on Twitter. Kingdom of Dreams has also associated with this initiative as a partner. As part of this campaign, the Gaana team also plans to take some children from the NGO to Kingdom of Dreams for a visit.
One share equals to one rupee donated towards the NGO and the company claims that it has already donated about Rs 1 lakh so far. It adds that the initiative is a means to generate money for kids and also generate traffic for the site. Also, being a CSR activity, it will raise awareness about Gaana. This activity is been promoted on social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter) and across Times Internet network.
Speaking on the initiative, Pawan Agarwal, business head, Gaana.com, says, "The objective behind such CSR initiatives under the banner of Gaana is to bring smiles to the faces of needy people. The 'Share a song for a smile' campaign is integral to our future, our children's future and the future of our world. Music is a great healer and can bring people together. This is an attempt from Gaana to use music as a medium for the betterment of society and to channel its cause."
V G Krishnan, co-founder, Shiksha Daan, states, "There are still millions of children who do not have access to schools and will not be able to fulfil their potential without additional support. Gaana's partnership will help us reach many more of those children in the coming year, giving each one a brighter future."
Gaana.com is one of India's largest music streaming services on the internet, according to comScore, with over 5 million unique monthly users. Since its inception in 2011, Gaana has had nearly 500 million song playbacks with users spending an average of 28 minutes per session on the site.
