What started as a small protest against the rise in bus fares in Sao Paulo, Brazil, has transformed into a massive outrage that has shaken the Brazilian government to the core. Though the burning issues that are at the helm of the protest are corruption, high cost of living and poor public services, what has got millions together on the streets is the Brazilian government's extravagant spending for the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in 2014.

In the wake of the protests, a simple six-minute video by a young Brazilian director, Carla Toledo Dauden, explaining why one should not attend the next FIFA World Cup has caught the attention of more than three million people in just two weeks.

The video shows people on record talking about poor health and infrastructure facilities in the country and expresses their anger at the government's obsession towards the World Cup and blatant neglect of the common man's interests. The video was released on June 17 and till date has got more than 33 lakh views on YouTube.

The video raises burning questions such as why a country like Brazil with a poor rating in the Human Development Index, 21 per cent illiteracy, poor health facilities, malnutrition and other problems needs stadiums, and will the World Cup change the fortunes of people?

The video ends with a speech of President Dima Rousseff where she talks about Brazil's stable economy and good governance. Although the government has negotiated a truce with the protesters and promised to address their concerns, the YouTube video continues to gather support and concern on the internet.
