Rajiv Sethi, erstwhile circle business head, UP East, Uninor, has been promoted as chief marketing officer of the company.

His new mandate includes the responsibilities of marketing, products, customer lifecycle management, sales and distribution for pan-India operations. The company is yet to announce the new circle business head for UP East.

Sethi has led Uninor operations in UP East for the past two and a half years. He began working with Uninor in 2009 after he quit Vodafone, where he was working as head, sales and marketing for the Odisha circle.

Sethi says, "Uninor has established itself as a strong competitor in each of its circles through a simple and focused offering, direct communication and a strong mass market distribution. Our ambition is to build on this position and take Uninor to break-even across its circles this year."

Sigve Brekke, managing director, Uninor, says, "We are impressed with the results we have seen from the UP East circle and I'm sure Rajeev will bring many of these winning strategies to the benefit of Uninor's marketing operations."

A veteran with nearly two decades of experience, Sethi began his career in 1997 and has worked with leading brands such as Asian Paints, Hutchison Telecom, Hewlett Packard and Vodafone.

Sethi holds an engineering degree from Gujarat University and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow.

Uninor was launched in 2009 as a joint venture between Unitech, the infrastructure developer and the Norwegian telecom brand, Telenor. It is present in seven circles of the country and is subscribed by 41.5 million people. It has more than 16,000 distributors and over 3.5 lakh retail outlets.
