Micromax, the largest Indian mobile handset manufacturer, has appointed Shubhodip Pal as chief marketing officer. He will lead the marketing efforts of Micromax globally.

Pal comes with an experience of 16 years, during which he has worked with globally renowned brands such as Samsung, ABN AMRO and HP.

He has worked in the consumer space, in strategizing and implementing new and innovative campaigns and achieved laurels at national and international levels. Pal began his career in 1997 with Samsung India Electronics and spent over nine years serving different roles. In 2005, he moved to ABN AMRO as AVP and head, communications and sponsorships.

After that, he joined Hewlett Packard in 2007 and worked as head, consumer marketing. He managed and led communications for both HP and Compaq brands in India and successfully turned Hewlett Packard into a fashionable lifestyle-centric brand from just a B2B brand.

Later, Pal associated himself with BLYK India, a mobile messaging company, as its country manager and director, and successfully launched the country's first mobile magazine that catered to the youth.

He successfully established the service with Aircel as one of the most powerful youth engagement platforms within the first year of its launch; today, BLYK on Aircel has more than 3.7 million opted-in users.

In an official communiqué, Rahul Sharma, co-founder, Micromax, says, "Shubhodip brings with him a great track record as a marketer; tremendous level of energy; experience and enthusiasm that will help the Micromax brand reach newer heights of success."

Micromax claims to be the 12th largest handset manufacturer in the world. The Indian brand is present across 14 locations including Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, UAE, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Afghanistan and Brazil.

It has a product portfolio of more than 60 models ranging from feature-rich, dual-SIM phones to qwerty, touch-enabled smart-feature phones and 3G Android smartphones.
