Mobile operator Vodafone has joined hands with mobile advertising network Vserv.mobi for app monetisation.
Powered by AppWrapper, the partnership for app monetisation intends to enable Vodafone app developers to target app distribution through VStore. For the record, VStore is the app store from Vodafone which offers users Vodafone apps across all devices.
According to both the companies, Vodafone's developers will benefit from the Vserv.mobi AppWrapper, since it will enable a combination of both paid and free models running parallel to one another. This approach, therefore, will eliminate the dilemma of choosing only one model and maximise app monetisation with minimum effort.
AppWrapper will enable premium mobile advertising and innovative pricing models on any app, without coding. Also, the patent pending AppWrapper platform currently powers app monetisation for more than 10,000 apps, from developers such as Glu Mobile, Digital Chocolate, Indiagames (now a part of Disney), Nazara and Jump Games.
The paid monetisation capabilities enabled by AppWrapper include innovative pricing models such as try and buy, pay-per play and subscriptions. It allows developers to connect into any billing mechanism - be it direct billing from mobile operators like Vodafone or app stores like Nokia and the Android market.
Jonathan Bill, senior vice-president, business development and innovation, Vodafone India, says, "AppWrapper is a first-of-its-kind platform that enables free and paid app monetisation models, across both smartphones and feature phones without any coding effort. We believe that this will reinvigorate the mobile internet ecosystem by allowing developers to accelerate their monetisation efforts and trigger innovation."
Binay Tiwari, head, marketing, Vserv.mobi, says, "Advertising combined with micro transaction-based pricing models is ideal to target the vast majority of prepaid mobile users in emerging markets. AppWrapper enables this in one click, thus offering developers tremendous flexibility in go-to-market across geographies."
