Roy is currently serving his notice period at the agency.
Industry sources have confirmed that OMD India has appointed Vinay Dholakia as general manager, digital. With the development, Dholakia ends a stint of more than three years at Hungama Digital Media, where he worked in the same position leading the digital services of the company.
Dholakia replaces Subrata Roy, who has put in his papers at OMD.
Dholakia will lead the non-HUL team at OMD Digital and will report to Biraja Swain, vice-president, digital and emerging media, OMD.
Besides Hungama Digital Media, Dholakia has also worked with IT Nation, handling all sponsorship and media sales of UTV New Media for over six years. He has also had extensive stints with Stem Computer Systems and Datapro in his career spanning more than 15 years.
Roy, who is currently serving his notice period at OMD, will move out by the end of this month. It is learnt that he is evaluating options for his next destination and will further his learnings in the digital arena.
Roy has worked as general manager, digital with OMD for two years, and is also armed with more than 15 years of experience. Before OMD, he was with Ogilvy and last served as media director, Neo@Ogilvy, the digital media planning and buying arm of Ogilvy India.
He joined Ogilvy in November 2005 as group head, digital media planning, and was later promoted as associate media director in 2007. He became the media director in 2008.
Roy has also worked with Business Standard and the Sahara Group.
OMD has recently witnessed significant exits in its digital team both at senior and middle management levels that include Raja Ramchandran, head, operations; Shyni Johnson, supervisor, planning and buying; Khushboo Maheshwari, group head and Shagun Raghuvanshi, supervisor, planning and buying.
