The information and measurement firm The Nielsen Company has roped in Vikramaditya Sharma as head of its online division. Prior to this, Sharma has worked with NDTV Convergence as national head of strategy -- sales and marketing, for a short period of about five months.

Nielsen Online provides online audience measurement and analysis services. Last year, it tied up with McKinsey to launch a global joint venture named NM Incite. It offers social media monitoring and advisory services for online reputation management, gathering consumer feedback and conducting market research for clients.

Sharma has more than eight years of work experience. Before NDTV Convergence, he was national head, business development and sales, HT Media, and was responsible for revenue and traffic generation for its news websites. He has also worked with Yahoo! India and was responsible for the monetisation and expansion of Yahoo's mobile business in India. Sharma was not available to comment on his appointment.

Earlier, Karthik Nagarajan was heading the online arm of The Nielsen Company. Nagarajan spent more than two-and-half years as director of Nielsen Online. He is now working with GroupM, the media planning and buying agency of the WPP Group, as national director, social media and insights.
