The registered user base of the free call and messaging application stood at 28 million in July, 2010.
Nimbuzz, the free call and messaging application, claims that it has crossed the 50 million registered users mark, worldwide. In an official communiqué, the company says that its registered user base stood at 28 million in July, 2010. The company has declined to reveal its user base in India and the total number of active users in the world.
For the uninitiated, Nimbuzz -- available as a mobile and desktop application -- is a universal instant messaging platform. To access it, users are required to download it on the mobile device or desktop computer and create a profile. Once registered, users can log into the application and chat with their friends active across various chat platforms such as Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger (MSN), ICQ and AIM. This implies that users active across different chat platforms will be visible to the Nimbuzz user in a single window.
Apart from instant messaging service, Nimbuzz also offers a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service called Nimbuzz Out to enable its users to make phone calls outside India. The company claims that more than 1 lakh users register on Nimbuzz every day globally, and the average time spent by a user on Nimbuzz app is 2.5 hours per day.
"The majority of the traffic on Nimbuzz in India, comes via Nokia and Java-based phones. The Nimbuzz base on Android is also growing at a faster pace. Metro cities constitute majority of the traffic on Nimbuzz in India, while traffic from non-metro cities has started to pick up. More than 70 per cent of users belong to the 17-30 years age bracket in India," says Jamshed V Rajan, country head, Nimbuzz India, in conversation with afaqs!.
Rajan believes that the availability of Nimbuzz app across various mobile platforms such as Symbian, iPhone, iPod touch, Android, BlackBerry and J2ME could be one of the key reasons for getting good traction. He also points out that the company has tied up with various handset manufacturers such as Micromax, Karbonn and Lava Mobiles to offer Nimbuzz as a pre-loaded app in India.
