The maximum violations occurred in the personal and healthcare categories.
The Advertising Standard Council of India's Consumer Complaints Council (CCC), a self-regulatory industry body, has sent out a report about the complaints it upheld in July 2015.
Of the 110 complaints received, the CCC found 74 ads 'guilty' of violating the prescribed code. While maximum defaulters belonged to the personal and healthcare categories, followed by 21 objectionable ads in the Education category and 21 advertisements from 'Others' categories were found misleading.
Defaulters in the personal and healthcare categories included L'Oreal India (Garnier Fructis Oil in Cream), Kent RO Systems (Kent Mineral RO Water Purifier) and Reckitt Benckiser Healthcare India (Harpic toilet cleaner), among others. Meanwhile, Aakash Educational Services (Aakash Institute) and CL Educate were some of the major defaulters in the Education category. Ads of BMW, HDFC Bank, Bloomberg TV India and Ebay Inc were found to be misleading in the Others category.
