NeuroGen Brain & Spine Institute, in association with TBWA\India won a Grand Prix at Spikes Asia Awards in the Print and Publishing category for their entry, One Mindful Mind.
The winning entry, which helps parents turn counsellor, is an interactive print tool kit that encourages light-hearted albeit essential discussions between parent and child, to help children understand and thereby, control their emotions.
On winning the Grand Prix, Govind Pandey, CEO, TBWA\ India said, “It’s a big win for the agency and for Mental Health. We appreciate the support from our client NeuroGen Brain & Spine Institute and Dr Alok Sharma allowing us to create an effective intervention in the field of mental health.” He adds, “This is a win for Design by Disruption where design is making a real difference.”
Peer pressure, high parental expectations, change in the dynamics of families and increased technological dependence are some of the factors that have led to the mental health crisis that looms over our children today.
Dr Alok Sharma, leading Neurosurgeon and Director, NeuroGen Brain & Spine Institute and Professor and Head of Neurosurgery, LTMG Hospital & LTM Medical College, Sion said, “There has been an alarming surge in reported cases of mental health disorders afflicting children and teenagers in recent years. According to the World Mental Health Organization, one in four children in the age group of 13-15 years in India suffer from depression, anxiety, mood or conduct disorders, a problem that affects 86 million people in South-East Asia alone.”
Children lack the coping mechanisms required to deal with negative circumstances effectively, while, developing a positive outlook on life at the same time. The global “epidemic of anxiety” needs to be addressed at an early stage.
One Mindful Mind provides the OMM tool kit, which can be used at one's own pace and convenience. Each tool gives children the ability to think and play in a non-prescriptive manner. Children have complete freedom in selecting a tool of choice and in expressing their unique ideas through these tools.
The OMM tool kit consists of The Feeling Flashcards, The Mood Journal, The Thought Cards, The Mindful Workbook and The Parental Guide. Many parents are now using OMM as a positive step towards better mental health. The kit has been distributed across child care centers, hospitals, libraries and schools nationwide.
Parixit Bhattacharya, Managing Partner - Creative, TBWA\ India said, “We need to raise children who are in touch with their emotions to grow up as well-adjusted adults. OMM is an engaging tool kit to help parents turn into counsellors for their children and nudge positive behaviour while reinforcing a strong parent-child bond.”
In addition to the tool kit, OMM also has a website with all the product information. The tool kit is also available for sale on the website. And parts of the Mindful Workbook will be available for free download in the form of a printable PDF.
OMM follows TBWA\India’s Blink to Speak campaign which was the world’s first eye language tool - a simple communication method created to help paralysed people with difficulties in speech. The campaign created by NeuroGen Brain & Spine Institute in association with TBWA\India won the United Nations Grand Prix for Good and over 35 other national and international awards.
