Mrinmoy Mukherjee, the former chief marketing officer, lifestyle business, Raymond, has joined Aditya Birla Retail as chief marketing officer and head, business, Own Brands. Mukherjee quit Raymond in July 2014 and took over responsibilities at Aditya Birla in September.
Speaking to afaqs!, Mukherjee says that his responsibilities at Aditya Birla include handling marketing for the supermarket and hypermarket formats owned by the company. Besides, his team is also involved in visual merchandising, CRM, P&L responsibility, manufacturing, supply chain, product and brand development, sales and R&D for the company's own brands.
Aditya Birla Retail is the retail arm of the Aditya Birla Group, a $40 billion corporation. The company ventured into food and grocery retail in 2007 with the acquisition of a south-based supermarket chain. Subsequently, Aditya Birla Retail expanded its presence across the country under the brand - "more" with two formats - Supermarket and Hypermarket.
In the Supermarket format, the company has more.supermarkets that cater to the daily, weekly and monthly shopping needs of consumers. In the hypermarket format, it has more.Megastore, which is a one-stop shopping destination for the entire family.
Currently, 14 hypermarkets operate under the brand more.Megastore - three in Hyderabad; three in New Delhi; five in Karnataka; one in Maharashtra; one in Gujarat and one in Madhya Pradesh. Aditya Birla Retail has an employee strength of around 10,000 people. Aditya Birla Retail also provides customers with a wide choice of products under its own labels.
This is Mukherjee's second stint at the Group. He worked there between 2008 and 2010 in various capacities. In 2011, he joined Raymond and, in February 2014, was promoted to the post of CMO of Lifestyle Business. Prior to that, he was the director of marketing at Raymond Retail Business Vertical. Mukherjee was with Raymond for three years.
In a career spanning 15 years, Mukherjee has served as the chief operating officer at Shining Consulting. Before that, he had also worked with Radio City, Kaya Skin Clinic and Marico.
