Cogito Consulting, in association with Draftfcb Ulka, has conducted a research on the connect between the society and Bollywood. Titled 'Reflection of Indian Society through the Lens of Bollywood', the study points out 10 specific societal changes that have influenced Indian cinema (specifically Bollywood) in the last few decades.

Indian cinema produces the highest number of movies every year, across the globe. Of this, the Tamil and Telugu cinema industries lead with 17 per cent of the movies produced in each of the regions. Hindi movies are the second highest, numbering 15 per cent of the total movies released in India.

The study mentions how the reach of cinema is restricted to mere 45 million out of the total 1.2 billion population in India, which should ideally be at 300 million at the least.

Over the decades, action and comedy genres have gained a lot of popularity and viewership, while romance has gone significantly down in terms of grossing. The movies have become shorter by 30 minutes and songs by about 52 seconds in the past decades. Moreover, the 'foreword' that showed the 'bachpan ki kahaani' of the protagonists of the film is now conspicuous by its absence.

Other interesting findings are detailed in the complete report given below:
