Sanjay Behl recently quit Reliance ADAG group to join Raymond Limited as chief executive officer, lifestyle business.

Behl feels that it's a great opportunity for him and the start of a new inning in his life. "Apparel is the basic consumption item industry. We talk about the basic necessity of 'roti, kapda, makaan' (food, clothing and shelter) and that's what this industry is about. This is a Rs 4,00,000 crore industry today. The aspirations of the consumers have changed and that has been very encouraging."

"Rapid change in consumer aspirations coupled with growing discretionary spend on lifestyle goods poses a tremendous opportunity for the market leader and the highly respectable brand portfolio at Raymond, both in 'Ready-to-Stitch' textile fabric and 'Ready-to-Wear' branded apparel segments," he adds.

Behl feels that it's an opportunity to be associated with Raymond, which leads in the industry and also provides a chance of brand extension in the lifestyle category. The lifestyle business of Raymond comprises of the organisation's core businesses, namely textiles, apparel and retail.

Having worked across diverse industries such as consumer goods and services, Behl brings with him a wealth of experience in business leadership and operational management.

At Reliance, he performed leadership roles across different spheres over the last eight years. At Reliance ADA Group, he was group head of brand and marketing and CEO of Reliance DTH. He was also national head for sales and distribution at Reliance Communications.

Having started his career with Hindustan Unilever, he has also worked with Nokia at Asia Pacific and global levels.

Behl is an engineer from IIT BHU (Varanasi) and an MBA from Sydenham Institute of Management, Mumbai.
