After spending seven years with Tata Teleservices, Khan heads back to Reliance Industries.
Abdul Khan, erstwhile senior vice-president and national head for business marketing at Tata Teleservices, has moved into Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries. This will be his second stint at the organization. It also ends his seven-year journey with Tata Teleservices.
Confirming the news to afaqs!, Khan says that the exact role that he will play at the organization is yet to be decided.
Highly placed sources from the industry, on condition of anonymity, reveal that Khan will be an advisor to the chairman and work closely with Reliance Industries' chairman and managing director Ambani on new business projects and ventures.
Khan has more than 28 years of experience in brand marketing and advertising.
An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Ahmedabad, he has worked across product markets.
After post graduation, he began his career with Asian Paints in 1984 and later moved to Mudra (now DDB Mudra Group) in 1986. One of the most prominent brands that he worked on at Mudra was McDonalds. Later, at the same agency, he helped launch Reliance's telecom venture. In 2000, he moved over to the client side to join Reliance. In fact, Khan led marketing for the start up of the Reliance Infocomm business in India and worked to launch the mobile services, the retail and the value added services.
Tata Teleservices was his next destination. At Tata Teleservices, he pioneered the launch of Walky-fixed wireless phone, Photon-wireless internet, non-stop mobile and the successful launch of Tata Docomo. In 2009, he became head of GSM marketing and advisor to managing director at Tata Teleservices.
