Dutt is an industry veteran with about 27 years of experience in the Indian mobile technology and telecom sector.
Research In Motion (RIM), the parent company of mobile handset brand Blackberry, has appointed Sunil Dutt as managing director for its India operations. Dutt brings in 27 years of experience in the Indian mobile technology and telecom sector.
Urpo Karjalainen, senior vice-president, Research In Motion Asia-Pacific, remarks in an official communiqué, "Sunil Dutt brings a wealth of experience to RIM. His strong managerial and communication skills, as well as an institutional understanding of the technology and telecom sector, will be instrumental in driving the next stage of our business growth in India."
Commenting on his move to RIM, Dutt says in a press statement: "India has achieved considerable success in RIM's global business in recent years. I look forward to be a part of RIM, and to help drive this success further."
Until recently, Dutt worked for Hewlett Packard India (sales) as president, Personal Systems Group, and was responsible for expanding the company's business in the enterprise, mid-market, and consumer spaces.
Earlier, Dutt worked in senior positions for companies such as Samsung India Electronics, Nokia India, Whirlpool of India, Wipro and Philips India.
A graduate from Panjab University, Dutt joined Whirlpool of India in 1996, where he spent five years. In 2001, he joined Barista Coffee Company, where he worked as head of operations. A year later, he joined Nokia India as sales director. After more than five years in the organisation, he moved to Samsung India Electronics as country head for two years. Subsequently, the assignment at Hewlett Packard came about, where he worked for a period of about two years.
