Manish Kalra, erstwhile marketing head of online travel website MakeMyTrip.com, has joined Amazon India as the head of integrated marketing.
Sources, who have confirmed the news to afaqs!, go on to tell us that Kalra will now be based in Bengaluru, where Amazon India is headquartered. While at MakeMyTrip, Kalra was based in the NCR region.
Recall that afaqs! reported his move from MakeMyTrip last month; the report said, "Though his next move is unknown, word is he is headed to join an e-commerce leader in the country." As it turns out, the company is Amazon. Kalra will be responsible for building the key Amazon Brands like Amazon.in, Junglee.com and Kindle in India.
A product of XLRI, Kalra had joined MakeMyTrip (MMT) in 2010 as the marketing head of offline media and was promoted as the overall marketing head in 2012, after erstwhile CMO Mohit Gupta was named chief business officer, Holidays at MakeMyTrip.com.
Before MMT, Kalra was associated with Dell at Bengaluru and Glasgow, where he was a part of the SPEED Program, an accelerator programme targeted at growing high potential managers by providing multifunctional exposure.
Before Dell, Kalra was at PepsiCo International where he worked as territory development manager in Kolkata, HP and Haryana. He was also with Citibank National Association, in the corporate sales department in Mumbai, during which time the business grew significantly.
He also won the Marketing Summit Award at Dell- Highest Marketing recognition-Feb-2010. Additionally, he won the VP's Award at Dell for launching the TYOP campaign which has been taken global by Dell. He was also instrumental in launching multiple marketing programmes in India which are now going global.
