Sandipan Deb, editor of The Financial Express, will soon be joining the RPG Group’s new publishing division. The publishing division will be part of the RPG Group’s integrated entertainment company, Saregama India (earlier known as HMV). The division will launch a bouquet of English magazines targeted at upper middle class readers.
The publishing division will be based in New Delhi. The RPG Group is currently in the process of setting up editorial and marketing teams. Deb’s mandate will be to oversee the division, help establish its operations and consolidate a team of competent professionals.

The RPG Group is looking at foraying into niche and upmarket segments such as fashion and lifestyle. It is likely that the publishing division will tie up with an international publisher to launch the magazines in the country.
Deb is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. Deb has been in the field of journalism since 1990. Before that, he was on the corporate side and worked with companies such as Lintas and ITC.
Deb started his journalism career with A&M magazine, where he spent four years. After that, he did a short stint with Business Today and subsequently moved to the Outlook Group. He spent 10 years there and was the founder-editor of Outlook Money. He was functioning as the managing editor of Outlook weekly newsmagazine in 2005, when he quit and joined The Financial Express (FE). He has been at FE for two and a half years.
